  • ASAP Strength Podcast with Cincinnati Bengals (ret) Strength Coach Kim Wood

6a00d83453dfa869e201bb09988b5d970d-300wiCoach Kim Wood spent thirty years as a coach with the Cincinnati Bengals. He was hired by the venerable founder and first coach of the @Bengals Paul Brown. Keep in mind that this was during the Bengals' hey day, as the team appeared in two Super Bowls, one of which San Francisco 49er stars Joe Montana and Jerry Rice led hall of fame type performances in the final minutes to take the win out of the grasp of the Cincinnati Bengals, quarterback Boomer Esiason and their head coach Sam Wyche. That left Kim Wood to reload the weightroom jukebox at the "spartan" Spinney Field weightroom and rearrange the power racks, wooden jerk boxes and Hammer Strength machines.
Coach Wood has been a regular guest for the ASAP Strength Podcast features and his most popular podcasts (all-time) PLAY tally continue to keep a narrow lead over Alex Marvez, SiriusXM NFL Radio host and Pro Football Hall of Fame voter. Kind of a big deal!

In this podcast, Kim Wood reminisces about the former Bengals coach Sam Wyche who recently succumbed to complications with melanoma.

  • ASAP Podcast with NFL Legend Strength Coach Kim Wood

20190501_181944ASAP PODCASTER Ed Cicale traveled up the Clifton incline toward The University of Cincinnati, where just down the road, lives retired strength coach Kim Wood. He spent over thirty years with the Cincinnati Bengals and hung around with the legendary NFL coaching great, Paul Brown.

Longtime Cincinnati Bengals Coach Kim Wood continues to spread the news on strength & conditioning for football. Kim knows NFL. His mentors were dudes like Paul Brown…. Bill Walsh, and Forrest Gregg. He spent weeks and weeks holed up in a dorm room at Wilmington College (Ohio) without air conditioning at the Cincinnati Bengals Training Camp that would last 9 weeks! WTH Then, there would be 6 exhibition games! The NFL draft was 15 rounds. First round picks would get cut. 15th Rounders…. like the Green Bay Packers' Bart Starr could become legends.

Kim Wood has joined ASAP for over 12 podcasts!!

20190501_180232Coach Wood is still a huge fan of the game and has a great grasp on what's going on in the NFL. In addition, he continues to spread the strength training gospel at his annual strength gathering held in Cincinnati, ohio every summer! And again tghis summer on July 20 & 21 it will be held at The Micro~Mini Cinema Theater in Cincinnati's Over the Rhine section.

Admission is free to members of
    The Iron League www.ironleague.com

Though he's not in the Cincinnati Bengal weightroom anymore, retired Cincinnati Bengal Coach Kim Wood still has iron in the fire. He still lives strength training. He still has one of the finest home gyms that you'll ever see, still has strength training apparatus in every room of his home and deck, and still has tons of books, magazines and documents throughout his home pertaining to strength development. • ASAP PODCAST with Coach Kim Wood (Ret) Cincinnati Bengals May 2017 Edition

Kim wood gym 005ASAP PODCASTER Ed Cicale traveled up the Clifton incline toward The University of Cincinnati, where just down the road, lives retired strength coach Kim Wood. He spent over thirty years with the Cincinnati Bengals and hung around with the legendary NFL coaching great, Paul Brown. During his coach days, Coach Wood took a stand against drugs in sports and hasn't backed down! In fact, he's more feisty than ever and has his sleeves rolled up to take on anyone who disagrees. He's old school in a new school NFL. If he was in charge, there'd be few drug problems and less glitzy training centers around.

Interestingly, despite having a decent retirement nest and benefits, he's only mastered Maxwell House Instant Coffee in the days of Keurig Coffee Makers and French Presses! His Facebook page is a tip-of-the hat to the days without smartphones, uploads and Tweets….. though done quite icely using the Facebook format. His front yard has weightlifting decks should you feel the need to hoist and olde time barbell or Russian kettlebell. Out back, where some might have their Weber grill…. Coach Has a Lat-Pulldown pulldown machine. His home gym resembles a Swiss ski chalet with fine woods and lighting that cascades inside. Outside, giant evergrees keep the room shaded from the afternoon sun. Each room in his spacious home has training equipment, yes, even the bedrooms…. some of which is highly regarded as collector items by museum types but for Kim, just basic stuff for a daily training regimen. Like good music during the workout? He's in possession of over 10,000 record albums and music CDs. Fancy cars? Nope….. just a 1989 Chevrolet Silverado pick-up truck with lapbelt seatbelts.

He loves football, but doesn't like the direction that it's heading sometimes. Especially when it comes to the safety of the players. Coach Wood has seen many of his former players and friends encounter difficult times as they've aged and believes that the forces and hits that they've come in contact with are directly responsible for their present condition. Therefore, he's continuing his stance that more has to be done…. more research on the brain as it relates to football and even further advanced training of the head and neck to further prepare the players' bodies for the violent contact. The longtime coach and Nautilus training advocate was also one of the original founders of the world renowned HAMMER STRENGTH training equipment. Presently, he's well known for his annual head & neck training clinics and though he's placing those clinics on the shelf, he'll surface this summer (July 21 and 22, 2017) in a new location within Cincinnati, Ohio and a fresher topic and updated theme. Coach Kim Wood has been a regular guest on the ASAP PODCAST. Here's the May 2017 Kim Wood Podcast:

  • The April 2015 Kim Wood Podcast

IMG_0283aDo you have a vintage 1905 barbell in your kitchen? Kettle bells right next to them… strength training equipment throughout your home? Well, if you're the retired Cincinnati Bengal Strength Coach Kim Wood, you do! Football and strength training have been intertwined into his life. He spent thirty years training NFL Players…. lived the life…. working for Paul Brown….Forrest Gregg… Dick LeBeau… Sam Wyche! Super Bowls. The whole deal. After having lunch at The Proud Rooster, a chicken place restaurant in the University of Cincinnati campus area, we headed back to his huge English Tudor home to record this podcast. The house contains some of the most hard to find and vintage strength training artifacts known to mankind. Coach Wood was also one of three co-founders of the Hammer Strength fitness training equipment. Strength training equipment, especially the older stuff, fascinates him. And, so does the National Football League! Checkout the podcast for some talk on training…his days with Paul Brown and the Bengals…. and some current chat on the NFL. He's basically an NFL Insider and knows tons about the daily grind of football.

And, of course, he has his June 26th & 27th:

FOOTBALL STRENGTH CLINIC which he discusses, too!
