    Head S&C Coach Jeff Dillman

ASAP~Athletic Strength And Power made the visit to Columbia, South Carolina this summer to check in on their new director of Football Strength & Conditioning Jeff Dillman.  After we caught a quick breakfast sandwich at Bojangles, we headed over to the University of South Carolina's Brice-Williams Stadium, a towering place that's typical of the huge stadiums encountered in SEC Football. The Gamecocks' football strength training center is located at the north end, just a few yards from the palm trees and a line of Cockabooses that are a huge hit with the tailgating crowd on gameday.

It was warming up outside that day as the mercury cruised up toward 99 degrees! But the heat didn't affect Coach Dillman…nor the Gamecocks as the session began within the spacious football strength complex . The players filed in and before long the strength staff had it all at full tilt as the players hit their stations and the training began. Meanwhile, the nutrition staff prepped workout recovery drinks, vitamins and hydration options for this SEC squad that opens up at Vanderbilt University in just a few weeks.

After the workout, Coach Dillman and I slipped into his strength office, which I had turned into a makeshift recording studio, for this candid interview. I was also able to snag a few pieces of bubble gum that's piled high in an official South Carolina Gamecocks bucket. We discus that and the training that has been going on at South Carolina Football:

  • ASAP at Georgia State Panthers in Training Pics + Podcast

Coach Holsopple(Right) Ted Lambrinides and The ATL

ASAP~Athletic Strength And Power finally got to Atlanta to see the new and upgraded facilities at Georgia State University Football.  The Head Strength & Conditioning Coach, Scott Holsopple, is quite pleased with the way things turned out and has nothing but positive vibes about how the Panthers are progressing as they make their way toward their opening game against Ball State.

Georgia State University is located right in the heart of downtown Atlanta and is home to around 50,000 students! So by enrollment numbers, it's the largest college in Georgia. The athletics program is a member of the Sunbelt Conference and the Panther Football squad won their first bowl game last year after only 6 years of existence. Not bad. And with Coach Holsopple, the Panthers won't find a more dedicated coach. In fact, he stations himself in a loft apartment just a mile or two away from the facility….an easy jaunt for he and his Alaskan Husky. And he already has a grasp on the dining scene in downtown. Let's start with his great suggestion of catching brunch at Ria's Bluebird…where The New York Times Review rated their pancakes as "world's finest"…… They were! I am already planning a trip back for more.

Coach Holsopple joined us a few months ago for an ASAP Podcast that was recorded at the Hammer Strength Clinic Battleground Academy Tennessee. In this fresh podcast, Scott discusses his background, what's going on at Georgia State Football, their brand new strength training center, the conditioning workout that we observed , and the progress the team has made as they prep for the 2016 season. By the way, the weather that day was typical Atlanta, Georgia summer hot. HOT.  And Holsopple was sporting a heavy duty Georgia State hoodie along with just as thick sweat pants. With the athletes sweating profusely all around, and myself, from time to time, ducking into the facility for a cold drink a quick hit of air conditioning, the coach never wavered. But that's Coach Holsopple!

Coach Mick shares a meaningful message with the Buckeyes

Coach MickThe  Ohio State Buckeyes'  Ass't  A.D. for Football Sports Performance, Mickey Marotti…..known around the Woody Hayes Athletic Center as "Coach Mick"… is preparing to hand over the "keys", both figuratively and literally,  of the OSU Buckeye Machine to his head Coach Urban Meyer  The Buckeyes check in to fall camp on Sunday as the off-season grind comes to a halt and the equipment managers start issuing shoulder pads, helmets and the rest of the gear to protect the players.  The team is ranked 5th in the coaches preseason poll, so you'd think that they have a ton of players returning. However,  there are only a handful of starters that will take the field against the Bowling Green State Falcons on September 3rd over in the giant horseshoe Ohio Stadium.

Pre-season respect like that is a tribute to great recruiting and great preparation. Ohio State brings in some great players, but that's only part of the equation when you're making runs at national championships. Preparation is also a huge piece of the pie and Coach Marotti has the experience to help guide these elite athletes to a higher level.

  • ASAP Podcast with Exercise Physiologist Dr. Ellington Darden PhD: The Body Fat Breakthough

Reknowned gym owner/fitness expert Roger Schwab of Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania understands well of the principles of a type of exercise known as eccentric or negative training…so well that he invested thousands of dollars into a specialized type of training equipment called X-FORCE.  The same can be said of Joe Cirulli and his Gainesville (Florida) Health & Fitness Training Center. He has also acquired the  X-Force line of training equipment. The results at their training centers have been quite remarkable. I can testify to the training experience that I had in Bryn Mawr at Roger's Mainline Health & Fitness. My first twenty minute session, supervised by Roger Schwab left me with a feeling that I'd never quite felt from years of strength training and conditioning. In fact, recovery took several days. I couldn't wait to return for more…. and I did. However, flights to Philadelphia can add up. Then, I got word of exercise physiologist Ellington Darden's new book………

    The Body Fat Breakthrough

    Dr. Darden's new book

Recorded at Kim Wood's Football Strength Clinic #4, ASAP overcame recording and technical difficulties and saved the audio for today's ASAP Podcast. Fortunately , our special guest Dr. Ellington Darden, was able to share some of his findings he's authored in his new book entitled: The Body Fat Breakthrough."
In the book, Darden details with plenty of motivating photographs, some of his findings on a new and interesting training regimen that produces some very noticeable results! Dr. Darden, an exercise phyiologist and author of 50 books dating back to 1973, knows how to deliver the point in easy to understand terminology. But, the huge message that I got from this new text is the reinforcement of the importance of Eccentric…or Negative Acentuated Training along with some new training techniques and methodology to my personal program and to those athletes and students whom I train.

In his book, Dr. Darden explains how placing a greater emphasis on eccentric training can transform strength training and fitness training to new levels. And, his 30-30-30 Routine, which I've been experimenting with, is guaranteed  to provide your program with a spark for improved results. Here's the ASAP Podcast with El Darden and information on how to get a copy of his newest book…. a must for any fitness trainer, strength coach, personal trainer or athlete looking to bump up their program.

  • Boston College Linebackers Luke Kuechly & Sean Duggan @RBFA

Rocky_boiman-wide_full_RGBTop college linebacker Luke Kuechly and fellow Boston College teammate, Sean Duggan enjoyed their holidays and winter break by teaming up with yet another former Cincinnati St X Bomber football player, Rocky Boiman, for some training sessions at the Rocky Boiman Football Academy located on Cincinnati’s far west side.

LukeIn this video, it’s Luke Kuechly, the leading tackler in all of college football 2011. Luke won the Butkus Trophy, given to the nation’s top college linebacker, the Bronko Nagurski Award: the nation’s top defensive player and the Lott IMPACT Trophy. In addition, Luke also was awarded the Rotary Lombardi Award. After a lot of thought, Luke decided to forgo his senior year of college football with the Boston College Eagles and have his name entered into the 2012 NFL Draft. Being a tackling machine, he’s a sure bet to be a top draft pick!
Luke Kuechly also starred at Cincinnati St. Xavier High School where he was an impact player throughout his career.
Also in this video, Sean Duggan has just finished his freshman year as linebacker at BC where he has made his presence known… in fact, after watching teammate, Kuechly nab an interception for a “pick 6”, Duggan snared his first career interception vs the Miami Hurricanes when he dove for a Jacory Harris pass. Sean was an also an All Ohio player for St X head coach Steve Specht.
Develop your “A” game and become the best football player that you can be at the Rocky Boiman Football Academy. Rocky will challenge each athlete to push themselves using specific drills and he’ll coach the players to a better understanding of the game of football.
Rocky Boiman was a star player at Cincinnati St. Xavier High School, a captain for the Fighting Irish at the University of Notre Dame… drafted by the Tennessee Titans and later winning a professional football player’s ultimate prize: a Super Bowl ring with the Indianapolis Colts.
And, if you happened to be watching NFL Football -Baltimore Ravens vs Houston Texans- in the United Kingdom yesterday, you heard Color Commentator Rocky Boiman describing the action and strategies to England and beyond.
