Kim Wood Podcasts Just down the road from The University of Cincinnati, in the subdivision known as Clifton, is where the retired strength coach of the Cincinnati Bengals, Kim Wood, resides. Kim was the first full-time strength coach in the National Football League. Hired by the great Paul Brown, Kim helped to introduce strength training to the world of football. In today's NFL, most teams have strength "staffs." The training of multi-million dollar athletes is a big business of itself. Coach Wood was at the forefront and worked with some of the finest players that the "league" has known.  He was fortunate in that he was able to be involved in two Super Bowls… the second of which required a spectacular San Francisco 49ers comeback…. Joe Montana to Jerry Rice…and then to John Taylor with 34 seconds remaining for the go ahead touchdown.
As you make your way through the beautiful home in this historic area of Cincinnati, you'll notice strength training apparatus in practically every room of the residence. And, a separate, attached home gym that takes on a character of its own with an almost museum type atmosphere. Kim is essentially a curator of the history of strength training of strongmen and football athletes.

DSC_0093 Presently, he's studying, researching and compiling information about neck and head injuries in football. He's also concerned with the direction of strength training for athletics and he wants to help coaches gain focus on how this important job can be done to the fullest. In fact, coming up on June 17th & 18th, 2011, Coach Kim Wood will host and direct a training clinic and seminar to directly meet that objective.

  • ASAP Advisory Board: Ken Mannie; Michigan State University

He’s been training athletes for over thirty years and he still has his sleeves rolled up and is ready to take his athletes at Michigan State University to the next level. The guy is a motivator…. I’ve seen him in action….. and he sure knows how to get the job done. Period. There’s a reason why ASAP~Athletic Strength And Power has him postioned on our ASAP Advisory Board. One, he’s insightful. Two, he knows the business of strength training. Finally, his personality just plain makes you want to work hard. Mannie_ken_2
Coach Ken Mannie is a regular contributor to Scholastic Coach and Athletic Director  and, of course  www.AthleticStrengthAndPower.com . Coach Mannie will be starting his 14th year as the Head Strength Coach for the MSU Spartans.

Today, ASAP posts a recent article found in Coach and Athletic Director. The article covers a few aspects of certain topics like lifting movements, training equipment and multi-joint movements. Ken’s ethical style is not accompanied by product endorsements or related advertising…. just straight shootin’, objective imformation to help coaches and trainees at any level.
