  • Ohio State Buckeyes Flex Their Muscles

    IMG_2922b

    Outnumbered at The Shoe

Ohio State flexed their muscles a bit at Ohio Stadium as they played host to the Cincinnati Bearcats. and with that, the Buckeyes' Asst AD for Football Sports Performance, Coach Mickey Marotti, definitely had to be pleased with what's been #developedhere in Columbus. Interestingly, Mickey
Marotti was Cincinnati’s strength and conditioning coach for nearly nine years, from 1990-98. and Brady Collins, Cincinnati's Director of Football Performance,  worked for Coach Mick as an Assistant Strength & Conditioning Coach with Ohio State Football. Head Football Coach Luke Fickell served as interim Head Football Coach for the Buckeyes.
With their 42-0 win, Ohio State maintained their spot among college football's elite in the 2019 season, moving their record to 2-0. The Bearcats make their trip back to Cincinnati and prep for another in-state rival, the Miami Redhawks, a team that they've been playing since 1888…. 1888!

  • ASAP at Florida Gators Football Strength Training 2018

IMG_9352With all of the new changes going on at Florida Gator Football, it was just a matter of time before the ASAP Road Show would make its way down to Gainesville and find out what is going on. When Head Football Coach Dan Mullen took the coaching position with this Southeastern Conference program, he needed a guy to get the Gators' that nasty bite back. The Florida Gators needed some prodding, some new direction, and someone to bring out the fierce side. Mullen didn't have to search very far! He brought the guy who'd been directing his football performance program at Mississippi State. Nick Savage, along with his impressive and highly enthusiastic staff, was hired to prepare the Gators for some big days in "The Swamp".

Our first impressions of the transformation taking place at Florida was basically….. WOW!  Things are looking real down there in that strength training complex that lies within the legendary Ben Hill Griffin Stadium. Some real SEC-type athletes are making some serious physical changes and I have to think that it won't be long until the Florida Gators put themselves back into serious contention with SEC foes like the Georgia Bulldogs and South Carolina Gamecocks.

Here are a few of the pics and a few video clips from what we saw there!

IMG_7765BCglazierclinicASAP~Athletic Strength And Power checked in at the Glazier Clinic-Cincinnati held at The Hilton Cincinnati Netherlands Plaza and caught up with Cincinnati Bearcats' Director of Football Sports Performance Brady Collins who was a featured speaker at the event. Coach Collins spoke three sessions: the 1:30pm Neck Training for football, 2:45pm Building a Culture in the Weightroom, and finally the 4:00pm Alternative Training Methods. Folks, this guy is a polished speaker and will no doubt be called upon for many other football and Strength & conditioning clinics. It's easy to see why his name will be surfacing at future clinics…. He has gained coaching experience and guidance from some of the best in the business. Ray Rock Oliver and Ted Lambrinides UK Wildcats, Mickey Marotti Ohio State, Matt Balis & Rick Court Mississippi State have all influenced Brady and his coaching philosophy. IMG_5358It's a new era of football for the Cincinnati Bearcats. Coach Luke Fickell and his very experienced staff are in town now and they're beginning to build the foundation that needs to be established for future prosperity. The base is often times the most difficult part of building a structure. But once it's established…. lookout! And that's where Brady Collins enters the picture. He's the guy who Coach Fickell has entrusted to lead his young Bearcats as the Director of Football Sports Performance. Here's a few game pics and Bearcats-in-training videos to show you how Coach Collins and his staff are laying down the groundwork.

  • ASAP Podcast with Toledo Rockets Dir. of Football Strength & Conditioning Brad Bichey

    Coach Candle and Brad Bichey

Toledo Head FB Coach Jason Candle with Coach Brad Bichey

For this ASAP Podcast, we traveled I-75 just about to its Ohio-Michigan border, crossed over the Maumee River to the University of Toledo. it's a pretty cool looking campus because just about all of the buildings are constructed with the same Indiana limestone. In fact, much of the football stadium, called the Glass Bowl, utilizes the same rock. Great looking college campus. And a couple of miles away is where our nutritional fuel-up took place…. a little place called Scrambler Marie's. And that's where to go for a really great breakfast. REAL. And that's the way we keep it on our ASAP Road Trips. While speaking with Brad Bichey, the Rocket's Head Strength & Conditioning Coach for Football, decorations that included hearts and flowers and chocolates were all being cleaned up and put away. Coach Bichey and his staff had just celebrated Valentines day with the football squad! A special workout just for the players. It's a little workout plan that he picked up off one of his coaching mentors, Ohio State's Mickey Marotti.

One note of interest,  the Toledo Rockets started "spring" practice much earlier than normal his season… it all kicked of on February 14th this year… an early jump out of the blocks this year!

For today's podcast, brought to you by TEAMBUILDR just click the PLAY button to hear all about it…and about the training program used by the Toledo Rockets. Also, take note of the squat tips that Coach Brad Bichey gave out!

And, this was not our first trip to see Coach Bichey at Toledo…. here's the blogpost, video and pics from that trip!

  • ASAP at Clemson Football Strength: Pics & Podcast with Coach Larry Greenlee

Larry GreenleeOur next stop lead us to Clemson, South Carolina. The home of the Clemson Tigers, runner-up to last year's National Championship, it's also the home (actually Pendleton, S.C.) of the Smokin' Pig BBQ! Plan accordingly though if you want to enjoy this great place, it's only open on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays. They spend the other days prepping for those three days! This may have been the best brisket ever. It's a must stop for BBQ lovers and lots of pure protein for a post training meal. While you are there, treat yourself to the Sweet Potato Crunch. One word: WOW

Prior to helping The Smoking Pig open up, we spent the morning with the Clemson Tigers! That included watching the squad load up on the shuttle from the stadium strength training complex over to their indoor. We also got to see some of the construction site of the new football complex, which is set to become the most incredible environment in all of college football. They are not leaving anything out with this configuration. The team went through a series of dynamic warm-ups and then moved to many of the assessments used to measure football speed and agility. The strength staff recorded all of the data as the team, which appeared FOCUSED, zipped through the tests.

From there, it was back onto the shuttle for the quick ride back to Clemson Memorial Stadium…. known to many as "Death Valley". That's where the Tigers went into to strength training mode and Head Strength Coach Joey Batson and his staff that includes his long time assistant, Larry Greenlee directed and coached one of college football's elite programs. These two have been training Tigers together for over 16 seasons. We were able to sit down with Coach Greenlee, set up our remote location recording studio and talk 'training' with the coach who also is a Clemson graduate and former athlete there, too.
