Today’s photo is from the ASAP: Athletic Strength And Power archives. Can you name this athlete performing a strict set of reverse barbell bicep curls? If so, feel free to make your guess through the COMMENTS area at the end of this article. Notice that despite nearing momentary muscular fatigue, his back is still straight as he maintains perfect form throughout the exercise.
Like many things in life, and weight training is no different, to excel at something you never really get too far from the basic fundamentals. So, in an effort to be the most productive, you want to continue to perform your exercises with the basic fundamental principles all the time. In fact, the more experienced that you are…the better you should be when perfoming any exercise.
With that in mind, let’s examine three things that can help you to regain or maintain your progress to becoming a stronger athlete:
*Diminish Momentum…..by minimizing momentum, you’ll actually increase your strength by making yourself do the lifting of the weight. If momentum is moving the weight…you’re not! And that’s not the general idea.
- *Keep leverage to a minimum…. You shouldn’t use improper form to continue to get reps. Don’t thrust your head back or throw your hips or lean backwards….movement like that can be counterproductive, thus not training the target area that the particular exercise is meant to do.
- Constant Muscular Tension….for maximal growth, try to maintain constant tension on the muscles throughout each rep…..once you lose the tension on the muscle, a chance at making maximal gains is lost. Strive to make gains during every workout. It’s the only way to the next level.
- Be sure to check back in the near future for Basic Fudamentals Part Two…..
