Front Squat Coaching Points with Ohio State Asst Strength Coach Anthony Schlegel
There's a right way to train…so, we went to one of the premier training centers in the world and of course, all of college football. That would be the Ohio State University football strength training complex at The Woody Hayes Athletic Center. When Head Football Coach Urban Meyer got to town, he immediately summoned his long time colleague, Strength & Conditioning Coach Mickey Marotti to take on the task of training the Buckeyes to make competitive runs at national championships. Marotti had done it at Florida twice with Coach Meyer…. so they set out to accomplish championships at Ohio State University. Their first season garnered a perfect 12-0 season. Not a bad start! Marotti assembled a strength training staff with a wide array of talents, expertise and motivational techniques. Jeff Uhlenhake is a a former Buckeye All-American and 10 year NFL star. Kenny Parker has Florida Gator roots and knows how to extract the right intensity from the players during workouts. Rick Court is non-stop energy from 5am till 5pm.
And, in this video another former OSU star, Anthony Schlegel talks Front Squat technique. Schlegel was a 3rd rounder himself in the NFL 2006 Draft (NY Jets) and had stint with the Cincinnati Bengals, too. Anthony was a popular player at Ohio State where he was a 2005 All Big Ten selection. Interestingly, he also owns a few powerlifting world records!

High School Strength Training: Noblesville (Indiana) High School
There's a high school in Noblesville, Indiana where they have taken strength training and fitness to a whole new level. I had an opportunity to check out the new facility a few weeks ago while I was at the NFL Combine in Indianapolis. I attended the Hammer Strength strength and conditioning clinic in Noblesville several weeks ago. Located about 12 miles north of Indiana's capital city, lies the city of Noblesville and that's the home of the Noblesville Millers. The high school layout, grounds and architectural plan are remarkable. However, if you're any type of coach, whether that would be high school, collegiate or professional level, you would most likely be astounded if you were to tour the strength training facility there.
The facility is supervised by Brian Clarke, the school's Wellness Department Chairperson and Strength & Conditioning Coordinator. And it's within that impressive training center where he teaches strength training and general fitness courses.
The video takes an in-depth look at the training center and you'll hear from Coach Clarke, an articulate professional who takes training seriously. The students at Noblesville are fortunate to have him at the helm! And, as you'll see in the video, they even have their own app to help organize and motivate the students and athletes there. Very cool.Click on the Noblesville Millers' logo to check out the pictures, too!

Cincinnati Reds Shoulder Strength Program
Cincinnati Reds Strength & Conditioning Coach Matt Krause and star pitcher Bronson Arroyo explained this shoulder strengthening routine to me. It's a great way to get your shoulders, especially the rotator cuff region, prepared for some serious strength training……. or some throwing!
Krause, who isn't a native of Cincinnati, has certainly developed an affinity for one of the Queen City's favorite recipes. And that is Skyline Chili. That's where the locals get their chili in the form of a "3-way," "4-way" and the ultimate "5-way." So, Matt aptly named this regular shoulder strengthening routine used in the workouts by the Cincinnati Reds players the:"5-Way Shoulder Routine"
