  • Ohio State Football: “Quick Cals” led by Mickey Marotti

College football games have a special quality that can't be matched by the pro game. Many programs, such as the one at the Ohio State University, have over 100 years of traditions. A marching band that "dots the 'i'", singing the alma mater at the game's end, tailgating and reminiscing about the college years…it's all good!
This year at Ohio State is somewhat different. There's a new head coach, Urban Meyer, and he's tweaked a few things here and there to put his fingerprints on the program. For one, he immediately brought in his "most important hire to the staff", Mickey Marotti. Coach Marotti became the Assistant Athletic Director for Football Sports Performance at Ohio State in January, 2012 and hit the ground running…..and so did the Buckeyes! Early morning training sessions, toughness drills, sports nutrition guidance and physically demanding strength training became the norm around the Woody Hayes Athletic Center.
Marotti understands traditions. He's built his coaching resume at West Virginia, Cincinnati, Notre Dame and Florida…where he was instrumental in helping Urban Meyer construct two National Championships football squads. On gameday, he's responsible for much of the pre-game prep involved in getting the team ready for the contest. He also leads this new "tradition" at twenty-three minutes til kick-off that involves the players, the students and the fans called "QUICK CALS." Go Bucks!

  • Michigan State Football “Hills on Mills”

Okay…. here's the disclaimer! I wouldn't suggest adjusting your treadmill to the settings that Coach Mannie and the Michigan State Football Strength Staff have….unless you've been training like a Spartan. It's not fun and games in the Duffy Daughtery Football Building in East Lansing, Michigan. The Staff: Tommy Hoke, Lorenzo Guess, Bill Burghardt….. they're all pushing, driving and motivating the players to reach their full potential. Check out the video and you'll see a few of the athletes performing the "Hills on Mills" routine.
For starters, you'll need a Woodway type treadmill, disengage the gearing mechanism so that the running deck flys freely and then adjust the incline to 25%. After grabbing hold of the handles, begin walking for about ten seconds….then proceed to a jog….and finally the "all out" phase… GO FULL SPEED for at least five seconds and try to crank out 15…16… maybe even getting to 17 MPH. Decelerate and continue on for several reps depending on you or your athletes' conditioning level.

  • ASAP Strength~Series.EDU at Michigan State Strength Clinic

Michigan State Football is surging ahead following a recent run of eleven win seasons, bowl games, victories over long time Big Ten foes and of course the triple overtime bowl victory over the SEC's Georgia Bulldogs at the 2012 Outback Bowl in Tampa, Florida.
It's not an accident! Players are "earning the jersey" up in East Lansing, Michigan. One huge reason is Head Football Coach Mark Dantonio.  One strong reason is due to the direction and leadership of the strength & conditioning program….. and that would be the Head Strength Coach, Ken Mannie.
Check out Ken Mannie in this ASAP exclusive, made-for-TV, high definition 'HD' look into the mindset of the rigorous training program taking place at the Duffy Daugherty Football Building on the campus of Michigan State University. Coach Mannie bares the nuts and bolts…the schematic for inculcating college football players to reach for and attain higher levels.
This is an excerpt from the Michigan State Strength Clinic, an annual event held in February. Watch this video and you'll more than likely attend next year's clinic!!

  • University of Kentucky Football Conditioning: Sites & Sounds Video

For the full effect of this video, turn your thermostat up to about 110 degrees! Get the humidity up high, too, because that’s the way it was for the recording of this footage from a hot day in Lexington. There weren’t any bands around playing “My Old Kentucky Home” nor fight songs. …..There was the UK Strength Staff and a whole lot of Gatorade, though! Here’s some sights and sounds from the University of Kentucky Football squad’s conditioning workout yesterday…..  wear Dri-Fit and stay hydrated. Better consult a physician before engaging in this type of exercise!!!
