  • ASAP at Duke Bluedevils Football Strength Podcast with S&C Coach Noel Durfey

IMG_8655The ASAP Road Show rolled along as we made our way back to Tobacco Road on to the incredible campus of Duke University. Of course, before we rolled onto the beautiful private college in Durham, North Carolina  ASAP~Athletic Strength And Power made a nutritional stop at The Original Q Shack. If Assistant Strength & Conditioning Coach Tony Smith highly suggests a restaurant, you better roll with it! This place has the whole package! Serious smoked meats with a blend of hickory and mesquite woods…… and sides that, well, you better get more than two! WOW. Pure protein at this stop!

Anyway, once inside the Blue Devils' strength training facility, and as we made our way past a long row of the Sorinex rack system, we caught up with their Head Strength & Conditioning Coach Noel Durfey, who was assessing the incoming freshman players on a battery of tests. ASAP Sports Science consultant Ted Lambrinides and Durfey discussed some of the latest research in the field and I set up the Road Show portable sound studio for today's ASAP Podcast made possible by one our great partners:

IMG_7765BCglazierclinicASAP~Athletic Strength And Power checked in at the Glazier Clinic-Cincinnati held at The Hilton Cincinnati Netherlands Plaza and caught up with Cincinnati Bearcats' Director of Football Sports Performance Brady Collins who was a featured speaker at the event. Coach Collins spoke three sessions: the 1:30pm Neck Training for football, 2:45pm Building a Culture in the Weightroom, and finally the 4:00pm Alternative Training Methods. Folks, this guy is a polished speaker and will no doubt be called upon for many other football and Strength & conditioning clinics. It's easy to see why his name will be surfacing at future clinics…. He has gained coaching experience and guidance from some of the best in the business. Ray Rock Oliver and Ted Lambrinides UK Wildcats, Mickey Marotti Ohio State, Matt Balis & Rick Court Mississippi State have all influenced Brady and his coaching philosophy. Toledo Rockets' Coach Brad Bichey

Twenty nine years ago, it was Head Football Coach Nick Saban at the helm with Ken Mannie anchoring down the strength and conditioning program. Nowadays, it's Football Coach Jason Candle and Head Strength Coach Brad Bichey. ASAP~Athletic Strength And Power braved snow and cold to finally make our way through the beautiful limestone homes of the Ottawa Hills village area and on to The Glass Bowl…. home stadium of the Toledo Rockets. That's where the Larimer Athletic Complex is and that's where you'll find Brad Bichey. The strength staff were just finishing several morning groups and a few guys prepping for the NFL Combine were making their way in for their respective workouts. Ted Lambrinides, myself (Ed Cicale) and Mt. Saint Joseph University Strength Coach Mike Shibinski got a full tour of some of the recent upgrades at Toledo Football and a full update on Rocket Power. In fact, the Toledo Rockets led the MAC in football attendance in 2017 and that may get back to back honors in 2018 as they will be hosting the Miami Hurricanes who'll be flying in from Coral Gables, Florida! The defending MAC Conference Champions will be strictly business as they hope to secure another addition to their trophy cases.

    Here's some photos!

Coach Bichey and I were able to take a few minutes to record this February 2018 ASAP Podcast….. here's the latest on Rocket Power!

And as the University of Cincinnati Director of Football Sports Performance, Brady Collins continues to develop the players in the bubble at U.C., the Head Football Coach, Luke Fickell, is out pounding the pavement and signing up top rated recruiting classes. The future is looking really bright on the Clifton campus, where Mick Cronin's basketball squad is presently ranked in the nation's top ten. The football Bearcats have themselves a great goal to work for. Their 2018 opener has them scheduled in the Rose Bowl stadium for a match-up against the UCLA Bruins.

But in the mean time. It's grind time with the brotherhood! Here's a few pics from last week's training session and an update ASAP Podcast with Coach Brady Collins that's sponsored by SpecAthletic Sports Flooring!

IMG_5358It's a new era of football for the Cincinnati Bearcats. Coach Luke Fickell and his very experienced staff are in town now and they're beginning to build the foundation that needs to be established for future prosperity. The base is often times the most difficult part of building a structure. But once it's established…. lookout! And that's where Brady Collins enters the picture. He's the guy who Coach Fickell has entrusted to lead his young Bearcats as the Director of Football Sports Performance. Here's a few game pics and Bearcats-in-training videos to show you how Coach Collins and his staff are laying down the groundwork.

  • Auburn Tigers Nutrition: Peanut Butter Protein Bars Recipe courtesy of Lauren Silvio Auburn Team Nutritionist

20170620_154102I have a new go-to post workout snack! And, I figure if it's one on the faves of the Auburn Tiger Football squad…. count me in.  During a recent meeting with Tigers' Head Strength Coach Ryan Russell, we observed an impressive strength training session followed by an intense conditioning workout in the relatively new indoor practice facility. Leave no doubt, the Auburn Tigers are looking very fit…. and very big. They have a few guys that have an NFL look! Coach Russell and his staff have been doing a great job in preparation for the upcoming 2017 season.

Having a team nutritionist centered right inside the training facility is paying dividends for Auburn. And Lauren Silvio is doing quite an impressive job.  By accident, I stumbled upon her and her staff producing a batch of Peanut Butter Protein Bars/nuggets. Anyway, the bottom line is that they happen to be a player favorite. Once I heard that, I moved along with a recipe request! Here it is:

BiProJarSetAuburn Tiger Peanut Butter Protein Bites

Add the ingredients to a bowl. Mix the batch until completely combined. Cut or roll into bite size chunks

1 Scoop of Whey Protein ( I used a packet of BiPro Chocolate Whey Protein Isolate)

2 cups of oat flour      ( You can use rolled oats cycled through a blender until it's flour-like)

1 1/2 cups of Peanut Butter

    1/4  cup of honey

    Chocolate chips to taste
