  • Michigan State Spartan Strength Clinic 2013

It's time to register for the upcoming Michigan State Strength Clinic which will take place on February 8th and 9th, 2013 at the Strength Training and MSU Football facilities in East Lansing, Michigan. This is the 6th Annual clinic that they have held. There's a reason that Coaches Ken Mannie and Mike Vorkapich keep having this clinic: It's popular and a SUCCESS. The Michigan State Strength program is well known from coast to coast and Mannie, Vorkapich, Tommy Hoke and the rest of the staff perpare the Spartans for championships. Players develop rapidly there. In fact, almost too fast as quite a few Michigan State players have opted out of their collegiate eligibility as Spartans to pursue professional careers…. physically and skillwise…ready to make the transition.

IMG_0286Now's your chance to check out the program from the front row seats! Soak in one of the truly top training centers in all of college football and basketball. Take note of the specialized equipment that they use, learn strength training from many of the master coaches and lecturers in the business, and, of course, catch Coach Mannie in action.

Just click here, or on SPARTY for the brochure, which offers a discount for early registration.

  • 2012 Michigan State Spartan Strength Clinic: February 10th and 11th

Time is running out! There's only a few more days now until the Michigan State Strength Clinic. I have been attending clinics like this since 1982 and I have to proclaim these MSU strength seminars as the best as far as accommodations, learning environment, networking with fellow colleagues, and also the practical coaching ideas that can be taken back to our individual situations…wherever that might be. Most coaches aspire to greatness…. and touring the facilities and observing professionals at work is always a great motivator. You're not going to find a more knowledgeable staff who are willing to share their ideas and collaborate on this type of level. Truly one of the elite programs in all of collegiate sports! It doesn't happen by chance…. it's the people and the character that is there in East Lansing. Hope to see you there….

I have been to the first four MSU Spartan Strength & Conditioning Clinics and somehow they make it better and even more informative every year. This year's line up promises to be another special event for strength training professionals, students, trainers, physical therapists and personal trainers. Clinic Director Mike Vorkapich does an exceptional job organizing and getting the clinic off the ground. The speaking line-up is always top notch…this year will be no different with the likes of Head MSU Strength Coach Ken Mannie, Dan Riley, Ken Leistner, Jason Arapoff, Mike Joseph, Paul Harker, Gabe Harrington and Scott Hayes.

Additionally, just being inside the Spartan Strength Training Complex is enough to motivate. It's tied for first on my list of top college weight rooms that I have seen…coast to coast!

For all of the details and to access the REGISTRATION FORM just click on the Spartan Photo above. The clinic takes place at the Clara Bell Smith Academic Center right across from Spartan Stadium. It's a comfortable, climate controlled auditorium style learning environment with desk format to place electronic learning devices and laptops and notebooks. The practical "lab work" takes place in the Spartan Weight Room within Duffy Daugherty Building.

  • Happy New Year 2012

Ensminger 021There are different ways to ring in the new year. Some better than others… everyone will have their own opinion there. However, there is the ASAP way.  That would require a good hard workout. So, unless you happen to be competing today, there's an opportunity to start the year off with a workout. I receive countless emails about workouts…"What to do?" "What not to do?" I prefer to let the experts talk about that stuff…just peruse our ASAP Archives for exercises, training tips, videos(also seen on our YouTube Channel).  Anyway, for those who persist, here's this morning's workout, the first of 2012. It was done at The Workout @ Adam's Landing in downtown Cincinnati. Strictly upper body work today. I'll hit the squat work tomorrow. I'll have more workout updates on Twitter, too: You'll just have to follow!
