While the National Football League had a huge playoffs weekend where the Tampa Bay Buccaneers grabbed headlines, and the Green Bay Packers grabbed some, too. Of course, the Kansas City Chiefs and Buffalo Bills secured their spots in the NFL conference championship games. Meanwhile, on the opposite side of the state of Florida, in Jacksonville, former college football coach Urban Meyer accepted an offer to coach the Jacksonville Jaguars. Subsequently, Meyer, who achieved three collegiate national championships at both the Florida Gators and Ohio State Buckeyes, wasted very little time getting to work on assembling his all important coaching staff to commence his first stint as an NFL coach. So, enter Anthony Schlegel as Urban Meyer's first hired staff member. Schlegel is former Ohio State star linebacker and assistant strength coach under both Jim Tressel and then retained by Meyer and Coach Mickey Marotti. ASAP~Athletic Strength And Power has done several videos and podcasts with Anthony Schlegel who has recently been devoting his full attention to his created business: The DifferenceUSA The Difference is a portable hand placement/striking machine able to be used by athletes of all ages and sports to optimize their athletic performance. We've featured Coach Anthony Schlegel on our site in the past. His colorful and demonstrative personality is pure linebacker. Nowadays, Anthony spends the majority of his time running his business, THE DIFFERENCE USA out of his workshop in Columbus, Ohio. It’s basically just a short drive from Ohio Stadium where he once roamed the field seeking a chance to attack and dominate! ASAP~Athletic Strength And Power stopped by the shop to talk shop with Schlegel to catch a podcast. I wasn’t too early — he rises everyday around 4:00 a.m. to conduct a Columbus based morning “drive time” radio show with former Buckeye & guaranteed to get listeners “juiced” up. The show is appropriately called “The Morning Juice”.
In our ASAP Podcast, we discuss:

Hall of Fame Coach Jim Tressel then hired Anthony to be an assistant strength and conditioning coach for The Ohio State Buckeyes. Schlegel was then retained by current Ohio State Football Coach, Urban Meyer, and Head Strength Coach, Mickey Marotti. During Anthony’s tenure at Ohio State, the Buckeyes were the first college football playoff National Champions, accumulated the longest winning streak in school history and maintained a record of 44–10. He completed his MBA from the Fisher College of Business at The Ohio State University and resigned from his post as the associate director of football sport performance for
Ohio State football and formed The DIFFERENCE USA. Check out his exciting new product that was developed in the weight room of The Ohio State University Football program to develop upper body strength and explosiveness while enhancing an athlete’s hand placement/striking techniques for all positions of the National Champion Buckeyes. It's strength clinic time and there are several reasons to get to one. For one, I've never been to a clinic where I did not return home with something newly added to my coaching toolbox. Fresh content! For example:
Some new techniques and coaching points to use when coaching your athletes.
Or, another way to incorporate certain exercises or lifts into the scope of the training program.
Are my athletes too young to try that lift and will it require too much time and coaching to stir it into the entire training program?
Should our program be a three day per week workout or a four day split? What's Coach Brady Collins' philosophy at Cincinnati Bearcats?
Where should we place our Pit Shark® for optimal use?

How can I educate the entire coaching staff at our school so that we're on the same page?
What is Coach Kenn's purpose for coaching the athletic position?
Our players need more toughness! How does Coach Marotti instill this with his Buckeyes/

Upcoming clinics:
Michigan State Annual Strength & Conditioning Clinic
Notre Dame Football Strength & Conditioning Clinic February 21-22, 2020
Michigan State Strength Clinic: February 7 & 8th 2020
It's that time again to plan for professional development. Michigan State Football Strength & Conditioning, is presently prepping for its annual S & C Clinic that's to be conducted on February 7th and 8th of 2020. Clinic Director Mike Vorkapich, Spartan Assistant Strength Coach, has assembled quite a strong list of clinicians that includes Ted Lambrinides who will serve as the Master of Ceremonies at The MSU Spartans Annual Strength & Conditioning Clinic at Michigan State University on February 7th and 8th 2020. Ted has spoken from coast to coast over the last 38 years on everything under the umbrella of sports and exercise science. Before embarking on his professional career, Lambrinides completed undergraduate, graduate and post graduate studies at The Ohio State University. He served for nine years as a collegiate strength and conditioning coach for the Buckeyes, his alma mater, and at The University of Kentucky. He's been been called upon as a guest speaker to many major college football programs where he's given streetwise and upfront talks to athletes about "Drugs, Supplements and Personal Conduct".
Ted was able to continue sports science research as he coordinated the Exercise Physiology Department at Thomas More College….tweaking his methodologies while training many of the top athletes in the Greater Cincinnati Tri-State Region. As a sports performance consultant, Coach Lambrinides has provided expertise on performance training and ergogenic aids to numerous collegiate and professional football and basketball programs. He's frequented practically every SEC and Big Ten program and most NFL teams as well.
I have been to the MSU Spartan Strength & Conditioning Clinics since their inception and somehow they make it better and even more informative every year. This year's line up promises to be another special event for strength training professionals, students, trainers, physical therapists and personal trainers. It's an excellent opportunity for professional development and updating necessary CEU requirements for CSCCa and NSCA. Clinic Director Mike Vorkapich does an exceptional job organizing and getting the clinic off the ground. The speaking line-up is always top notch and this year will be no different as Head MSU Spartans Strength Coach Ken Mannie, Coach Lambrinides and the clinic staff will get attendees motivated to return to their respective sites with a renewed perspective for establishing updated goals for their programs.
The clinic takes place at the Clara Bell Smith Academic Center right across from Spartan Stadium. It's a comfortable, climate controlled auditorium style learning environment with desk format to place electronic learning devices and laptops and notebooks. The practical "lab work" takes place in the Spartan Weight Room within Duffy Daugherty Building.
Talk about a swarm of Yellow Jackets! This Georgia Tech Football squad was on the go during my most recent visit to Atlanta, as head strength Coach Lew Caralla certainly had things stirred up. This particular workout that sport science researcher and NFL player tracking specialist Dr. Ted Lambrinides and I witnessed consisted of some team building activities, some very well executed squat sets, some single-arm dumbbell bench presses. There was also a pretty serious bar hang competition going on.
Coach Caralla was appointed as head strength and conditioning coach when newly incoming head football coach Geoff Collins arrived in the ATL. Caralla hit the ground running as he assembled his staff of Ryan Horton, Ed Thompson,Kyle Seger and Zach Reed. The hard work being done is starting to pay off now as the Rambling Wreck are transitioning from being a triple option centered offense to a more pro-style one. The recruiting focus shifts to targeting different types of players that fit the new scheme. But, in the mean time, the GT Yellow Jackets earned themselves a prime time win on their home field at Bobby Dodd Stadium. Georgia Tech jumped out to a quick lead and then watched their defense hold off late game surges by the Wolfpack of North Carolina State University. Coach Collins also put the ball in the hands of their star runner, Jordan Mason, who was able to churn out over 140 yards of rushing as the Georgia Tech offensive line was able to jell when it was most needed.
The strength training facility is located within the football home of the Yellow Jackets, Bobby Dodd Stadium. The scoreboard flashed a message, but nobody was there to see it. However, just a short walk through the tunnel and it was a complete contrast to the action inside the weightroom. We entered the Hugh Spruill Strength Training Center at 5:44 a.m. as the strength staff made preparations for the workout. A few minutes later… the action.
ASAP Fact: On December 10, 1936, just 2 months after former head football coach John Heisman's death on October 3, the Downtown Athletic Club (New York City) trophy was renamed the Heisman Memorial Trophy, and is now given to the player voted as the season's most outstanding collegiate football player.
