  • ASAP at East Lansing: Michigan State vs Ohio State

    Oie_spartan_stadium_036_2

Proper techniques need to be mastered by athletes through the execution of many repetitions over a long period of time.

Speed does not develop after just a week or two of drills. Months of hard training and the execution of hundreds of drills can help an athlete to be ready to perform at peak levels.

ASAP~Athletic Strength And Power went on location to East Lansing, Michigan to witness some of the finest conditioned college football athletes. Michigan State vs Ohio State. Both programs develop top notch athletes. MSU's former star, Plaxico Burress made some stellar catches in last year's Super Bowl victory for the New York Giants. Thirty former Buckeyes are presently on NFL rosters.

Movement patterns, pre-game drills, and flexibility training techniques were closely examined, photographed and video taped for further study. In future blog posts, ASAP will share some of the findings observed by athletes trained under MSU's Ken Mannie, Mike Vorkapich, Tommy Hoke and Tim Wakeham. And those Buckeyes trained by Eric Lichter, Jeff Uhlenhake and Doug Davis.

Being suspended by the NFL is never easy….nor is spending 5 weeks— 6 days a week with ASAP~Athletic Strength And Power Program Director Ted Lambrinides. Yet, that’s where the talented wide-out, Chris Henry, of the Cincinnati Bengals found himself: daily training sessions at The Workout @ Covington. The speedy receiver finished his last session on Saturday and rejoins Carson Palmer and the rest of his Bengals teammates on Monday in preparation for a game against the Dallas Cowboys. "I’m definitely ready to go." said a smiling Chris Henry who looked every bit of 6’4 and 200 pounds.

The workouts consisted of strength training exercises that were preceded by Dynamic Warm-ups, Flexibility Training, Strength and Power training…. and of course, shuttle runs…. lots of shuttle runs, gassers and Interval Training. Then there were the football specific drills and catching skill work, also.

  • ASAP Strength Training Podcast (episode #51); Dan Dalrymple, Strength Coach: New Orleans Saints

    Saints_header

    Dan_dalrymple_pic
ASAP~Athletic Strength And Power looked to gain an edge this week as we caught up with a long time resident of southwestern Ohio, Dan Dalrymple. Dan’s from the famed "cradle of coaches" at The Miami University in Oxford,Ohio as he’s now beginning his second season as strength coach for the New Orleans Saints. But it was his 17 years as strength coach and Director of Athletic Conditioning  for the Redhawks/ Redskins where he learned  the skills of the profession. He’s certified in USA Weightlifting and the National Strength And Conditioning Association. And, oh yeah, he was an All Mid-American Conference (MAC) his final two seasons for the Miami Redskins,  where he started all four years. Dalrymple is now enjoying his new assignment in New Orleans where he’s doing a real nice job. In fact, the Saints had no problems, in regards to strength and conditioning,  with the Bengals, shutting them out 13-0. Recent podcast guests, Billy Miller and Troy Evans also enjoyed fine performances in the game and probably didn’t get yelled at by the "Get-Back" coach (see the podcast).
In today’s podcast, Dan talks a little about his days at Miami and also discusses some insights into being a strength coach for a football squad in the National Football League. Coach also gives a lot of good advice to coaches and strength professionals.

  • ASAP NFL Game Day Podcast (episode#50) with Billy Miller, New Orleans Saints

    1f7539f4ffee42c9a052f8947cbe6b08ash
Today’s podcast, ASAP’s 50th, is with a California football star… Billy Miller….. born and raised there and played football for the University of Southern California Trojans (USC). (That’s Billy, pictured right following a touchdown scored by Ronnie Ghent later against the Bengals) Now, he’s preparing for his eleventh season in the National Football League….. how does he do it? Well, when he’s not playing and practicing with the New Orleans Saints, he’s training and helping motivate other athletes to train hard at his athletic training center in sunny California called ELITE ATHLETICS. Int_title_news
This summer, they had about 20 pro athletes, a host of college athletes, high school and middle school athletes, too. Reggie Bush was there… Bob Sanders. After all that, Billy Miller feels like he’s in the best shape of his life. Billy shared some of his enthusiasm with ASAP~Athletic Strength And Power at the Hyatt Regency this morning while having a little down time on Game Day.

Click on the ASAP~PODCAST Logo for the interview with the Saints big Tight End #83. (We let him get away with a lot of USC Trojan talk…. the Buckeyes should set him straight September 13th at the Coliseum in Los Angeles!)Billy
